What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a modified analog of human GLP-1 (7-37) featuring two structural amino acid substitutions (alpha-aminoisobutyric acid at position 8 to resist DPP-4 degradation) and a spacer attached to a C18 diacid chain at lysine 26, affording extended non-covalent albumin binding and a 1-week biological half-life. It has been extensively investigated across massive multinational phase 3 trials (STEP and SUSTAIN series).

Biological Mechanism

Selectively binds and activates the GLP-1 receptor on pancreatic beta cells, enhancing glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppressing glucagon release, slowing gastric motility, and acting centrally in the hypothalamus to induce satiety.
